How is a nerve conductor test performed?

I went to an orthopedic bc ive been having pain in my right hand, arm, shoulder, neck, and head. its a sharp, burning, numbing pain...could be carpal tunnel, but since the pain is so spread out, the doc wants a nerve conductor test done on me. how is that done? What should I expect?
